The Opportunity:

The Department:

The OB/GYN Department presently includes 10 physicians, of which five practice as generalists, three as obstetric hospitalists, and two gynecology only.  Other Department providers include four certified nurse midwives, three physician assistants, and three nurse practitioners.  These physicians and APC’s are supported by 20 clinical and administrative team members including RN’s, LPN’s, medical assistants, a coordinator, a data specialist, and administrative support staff.  Together, these well trained, highly skilled team members collaboratively provide comprehensive women’s health services of the highest quality.  With a passionate focus on quality, safety, and service excellence, the Bassett Women’s Health Department has earned a stellar reputation. 

In FY 2017, Bassett Women’s Health providers delivered 1,034 babies and performed 561 gynecological surgeries.   Outpatient clinic volume in 2017 was 15,434 for gynecological visits, and 13,518 for obstetrical visits.  The Birthing Center at Bassett Medical Center provides the highest standard of care for women and their new babies. The atmosphere is specifically designed for comfort and quiet, and a patient-centered, family-friendly experience.   The warm and welcoming, state-of-the-art Center includes four LDR rooms, an in-unit operating room, and eight postpartum rooms, as well as a special care nursery for newborns requiring special attention.  The unit is fully secured with monitoring of all visitors through our nurse's station and an infant security system to ensure a safe environment.

The Position:

The Chief, Department of OB/Gyn and Women’s Health will provide visionary clinical, strategic, and operational leadership for women’s health services across Bassett Health.  The Chief will represent the Department externally to regulatory agencies, other healthcare organizations and providers, and the public.  He or she will serve as a key member of the Bassett Health senior leadership team and will participate as a member of the Board of the Bassett Medical Group.

Reporting directly to the system Chief Clinical Officer, the Chief will have direct leadership responsibility and accountability for the Department of OB/Gyn.    The Chief will work with the other Department Chiefs and other clinical leaders as appropriate to support and advance Women’s Health Goals.  The Chief will work closely with his/her administrative dyad partner, the Administrative Director for the Departments of Women’s Health and Surgery, on program planning, operational, and administrative matters.   The Chief will develop and maintain a part-time clinical practice in his/her specialty/subspecialty.
